Mission:

Our mission is to create a tennis environment where people feel safe to try, supported to learn, and valued for who they are — not just how they perform.

At Chapman Tennis Coaching, tennis is the vehicle — but people are the focus.

We aim to create a safe, supportive environment where players feel a genuine sense of belonging, feel comfortable taking risks, and feel encouraged to keep learning — no matter their age or ability.

We believe that how someone experiences learning matters just as much as what they learn. When people feel safe, accepted, and supported, they’re more willing to try, make mistakes, and grow over time.

While we teach tennis skills, what we really focus on are the behaviours that support learning — effort, resilience, respect, sportsmanship, confidence, and the willingness to try again.

We don’t believe learning should be driven by fear, embarrassment, or pressure to be “good enough”. Instead, we aim to create an environment where mistakes are a normal part of the process, effort is recognised, and progress looks different for everyone.

Our goal is to help players — juniors and adults — build confidence not just in their tennis, but in themselves, so they can enjoy learning, stay engaged, and carry those lessons beyond the court.

Our Values

At Chapman Tennis Coaching, our values guide how we coach, how we learn, and how we treat one another.
These are the behaviours we actively encourage, recognise, and reward — in lessons, competitions, and team environments.

Respect

We treat ourselves, others, and our environment with care.

  • Respect for teammates, opponents, coaches, and courts

  • Respect for yourself and your learning journey

  • Sportsmanship in both winning and losing

Effort

We value commitment, persistence, and giving your best — regardless of the outcome.

  • Turning up and trying matters

  • Effort is recognised, even on challenging days

  • Progress comes through consistency, not perfection

Courage

We value the courage to try, to learn, and to keep going.

  • Having a go, even when something feels difficult or unfamiliar

  • Trying new skills or stepping into new situations

  • Accepting mistakes as part of learning and growth

Empathy

We care about others and the environment we create together.

  • Encouraging teammates and showing kindness

  • Being aware of how others may be feeling

  • Helping create a positive, inclusive group atmosphere

Growth

We focus on learning, improvement, and long-term development.

  • Everyone progresses at their own pace

  • Mistakes are part of the learning process

  • Improvement and resilience are valued over comparison

These values form the foundation of our coaching philosophy and the environment we aim to create — one where players feel supported, motivated, and confident to keep learning.
